About the Author

Emma Stein is an instructor at Athena’s Advanced Academy and degreed marine ecologist (UC Santa Cruz and Bangor University).

Emma has been enamored with bryozoans, particularly Membranipora membranacea, since learning of their existence. Why? Emma is frankly not entirely sure.

Emma teaches a course at Athena’s called The Rocky Intertidal Ecosystem, where students write their own research proposals for hypothetical research. The course includes example citations that cite “bryozoaninfo.com” as a source, which was a fictional source at the time. The Rocky Intertidal Ecosystem 2022 cohort absolutely adored the idea of Emma creating a real bryozoaninfo.com.

Thanks in major part to the persistence of their students, Emma created this website!
